From the history:
The RGD-5 grenade was adopted by the Soviet army in 1954. It was used by military personnel in the Afghan war and in hostilities on the territory of Chechnya. At the moment it is in service with the army of Russia and the CIS countries. It has become widespread due to its reliability and versatility.
The F-1 name comes from the 1915 French F-1 fragmentation grenade. In 1942, it was presented in the final version, having received a "unified fuse for hand grenades" by Soviet designers E.M. Viceni and A.A. Bednyakov. Currently, the F-1 grenade is in service with the army of Russia and the CIS countries, and has also become widespread in Africa and Latin America.
